Air Fryer Glazed Donuts

With an air fryer top, your Instant Pot isn't just for dinner anymore! We were able to make delicious, lower-fat donuts at home with a delicious glaze that had the kids coming back for thirds. The dough is a little sticky, so make sure to use a well dusted surface.

  • Dough
  • 375g / 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 50g / ¼ cup sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 ½ teaspoon instant yeast
  • Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl or mixer and combine with a dough whisk.
  • 1 cup milk, lukewarm
  • 1 egg, whisked gently
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Add milk, egg, and butter. Combine with a dough whisk until a rough dough forms.
  • Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead until the dough is smooth and elastic, about 5 to 10 minutes. Add more flour as needed to get to a smooth consistecy.
  • Rising
  • Place dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently roll out to about ½ inch thickness. Cut out 10-14 donuts using a 3-inch round cutter and a 1-inch round cutter to remove the center.
  • Transfer donuts and donut holes to lightly floured parchment paper and cover loosely with greased plastic wrap. Let donuts rise until doubled in volume, about 30 minutes.
  • Air Frying
  • oil spray (coconut oil, if available)
  • Spray air fryer basket with oil spray, carefully transfer donuts to Air Fryer basket in a single layer. Spray donuts with oil spray and cook at 350°F until golden brown, about 4 minutes for thinner donuts, 5 minutes for thicker. Repeat with remaining donuts and holes.
  • Vanilla Glaze (Optional)
  • 6 tablspoons unsalted butter
  • While the donuts are in the Air Fryer, melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  • 240g / 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Stir in powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • 4 tablespoons hot water, or as needed
  • Remove from heat and stir in hot water one tablespoon at a time until the icing is somewhat thin, but not watery. Set aside.
  • Dip hot donuts and donut holes in the glaze using to forks to submerge them. Place on a wire rack set over a rimmed baking sheet to allow excess glaze to drip off. Let sit until glaze hardens, about 10 minutes.
  • Maple Glaze (Optional)
  • Stir together ½ cup powdered sugar and 5 tablespoons maple syrup.
  • Sprinkles Topping (Optional)
  • Top with sprinkles right after dipping in glaze.
  • Cinnamon Sugar Coating (Optional)
  • Combine ½ cup granulated sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon. Spray donuts with oil spray before dipping them in the mixture.
