Pumpkin Bread

A wonderful fall bread that can be enjoyed anytime of the year. If you find yourself with an extra can of pumpkin puree and don't want to make pumpkin pie, this recipe will put it to tasty use.

  • Yields 2 loaves
Pumpkin Bread
  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • 3 ⅓ cup flour
  • 3 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • Sift the dry ingredients together in a large bowl.
  • 15 ounces pumpkin puree (fresh or canned)
  • 4 eggs
  • ⅔ cup water
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • ½ cup apple sauce
  • ??Add the wet ingredients and stir to until combined into a thick, smooth batter.

  • Lightly grease two bread pans. Pour batter evenly between the two pans
  • Bake in oven at 350°F for 1 hour or until knife inserted into bread comes out clean.
  • Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes in the pan. Remove from pan and let cool on wire rack until completely cooled.
