14 tablespoons (1 ¾ stick) butter, softened
240g / 1 ¼ cups sugar
Cream butter. Gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer.
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon almond extract
¼ teaspoon orange extract
Add egg, corn syrup, vanilla, almond extract, and orange extract, to the creamed mixture and beat well.
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 tablespoon warm water
Dissolve soda in water and then add into the creamed mixture. Mix well.
403g / 3 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
1 scant teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon ground cloves
In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and cloves. Then gradually add into creamed mixture, blending well.
Chill cookie dough for at least 2 hours.
Shape chilled dough into 1-inch balls. (Note: if the dough is too hard to shape because of chilling, let it sit out on the counter for ½ hour to warm up and then shape into cookies.)
48g / ¼ cup course, sprinkling sugar in festive color
Press cookie down into sugar, so as to get a pressed layer of sugar. Place on baking sheets 1 ½ inches apart with the sugar sprinkles facing up.
Bake cookies at 350°F until lightly browned, about 12 to 15 minutes.
Cool cookies on wire racks and enjoy!
