  • 14 tablespoons (1 ¾ stick) butter, softened
  • 240g / 1 ¼ cups sugar
  • Cream butter. Gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer.
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • ¼ teaspoon orange extract
  • Add egg, corn syrup, vanilla, almond extract, and orange extract, to the creamed mixture and beat well.
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon warm water
  • Dissolve soda in water and then add into the creamed mixture. Mix well.
  • 403g / 3 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 scant teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and cloves. Then gradually add into creamed mixture, blending well.
  • Chill cookie dough for at least 2 hours.
  • Shape chilled dough into 1-inch balls. (Note: if the dough is too hard to shape because of chilling, let it sit out on the counter for ½ hour to warm up and then shape into cookies.)
  • 48g / ¼ cup course, sprinkling sugar in festive color
  • Press cookie down into sugar, so as to get a pressed layer of sugar. Place on baking sheets 1 ½ inches apart with the sugar sprinkles facing up.
  • Bake cookies at 350°F until lightly browned, about 12 to 15 minutes.
  • Cool cookies on wire racks and enjoy!
